Kate and Christopher form and test a rule for choosing the number of miles for the red car to go if it is slower than the blue car, and the two cars both travel for 6 minutes.
For use in a classroom, pause the video and ask these questions:
1. [Pause video at 0:42] What distance do you think Kate and Christopher should enter to make the red car go slower than the blue car when both cars travel for 6 minutes?
2. [Pause video at 1:56] What is Kate’s idea? What is Christopher’s idea? Who do you agree with and why?
Allow students the opportunity to revoice others’ ideas by asking students to:
1. Talk to a neighbor about Focus Question #2. Invite the students to prepare their observations for sharing with the class.
2. When students share, ask another student to revoice what they heard by asking: “Who can revoice what Natalie just shared?”
